It’s easier than you think!
Being healthy during the holidays? It sounds impossible, but I promise it is easier than you think! I put together 5 tips on how to be healthy during the holidays. It makes all the difference! I started doing these things before Thanksgiving and actually lost 7 pounds since then. It’s not a ton, but it goes to show that these things truly work.
Tip #1: Know portion size
When I restrict my diet too much, I end up going overboard and binging on what my body craves. The trick is to know portion sizing. I decided to count calories using the app My Fitness Pal, but I know not everyone loves doing that. Drink a glass of water before each meal and before deciding to go back for seconds. It will help you feel more full without eating too much. I also discovered when I want soda or something like that, I added fruit to my water as a natural sweetener instead of drinking my calories.
Tip #2: Indulge in what is worth it
This step means that you are allowed to turn down your aunt’s dreaded fruit cake. Decide which treats and sweets are worth it and plan accordingly. You can indulge every once in awhile! One of my absolute favorite Christmas treats are chocolate oranges.
Tip #3: Get a few things to make exercise easier
If you are traveling, a gym isn’t always readily available. Pack something small like a jump rope too that can keep up your heart rate. I ordered a pair of exercise bands that work well to do some workouts in the car or even on an airplane.
Tip #4: Find easy meals when time is short
During the holidays, time can get away from you and fast food may seem like the only option. I LOVE to go out and I’m not a person who loves to cook. However, if you stock some healthy things that you have access too, it won’t even be a second thought to reach for.
Tip #5: Plan “active” activities
This is my favorite step! It’s one of the easier way to stay healthy and I never have to go out of my way to think about it. During Christmas break, my family is going on a few hikes and to the Grand Canyon. Talk about getting all my steps in! Set a goal for yourself everyday and try to reach it. Being active and spending time with loved ones is the best way to go!
These tips on how to be healthy have definitely helped me and I hope it gave you some ideas as well. Every Christmas I get really worried about going overboard, but this year I feel confident in my health plan. If you have any questions or suggestions of how to do this, feel free to comment below. Happy Holidays, friends!
