My everyday hair routine
I get a lot of requests asking how I curl hair and about the products that I use. I wanted to put together an everyday hair tutorial.
Here’s the step-by-step process on how to achieve getting those loose, beachy wave curls:
The Scrunchie
I portion off my hair by layer to make curling easier for me. I use one of those beloved 90’s scrunchies that we all know and love. The secret to those is that it doesn’t crease your hair when you style it or even sleep with it. It’s one of the only hair styling scrunchie, hair tie type thing that I use.
The Beachwaver
I use the Beachwaver s1.25. I turn it on to 370 degrees for my hair to hold the curl for longer than a day because I like my curls to last between 3-4 days instead of just 1. The Beachwaver has both fast and slow options. I started off slow when I was starting to use it, but then I moved up faster when I got more comfortable, but I would definitely recommend starting out slow.
First, I section off my hair in 1 inch chunks and I press the button away from my face because that frames my face shape the best. I clamp 3-4 inches above the ends because I want to avoid damaging my ends as much as humanly possible. This also gives the best piecey, mermaid-looking curl that I love. I press the button away from my face and then hold the curl for 3-5 seconds before pulling straight down. Whenever you continue doing curls around your head, then you can push the HOME button which is above the button where you can curl away or towards your face. The HOME button will make the wand spin all the way back around to the beginning so you can curl your next piece of hair. You will continue to do this on each layer that you have.
Heat Protectant
On my top layer, I use heat protectant. You are more than welcome to use heat protectant on any part of your hair, but I specifically use it on the top of my hair because it is the most damaged from the sun and from heat. I spray it through the amount of hair that I want and comb it through with my fingers before finishing off my top layer.
Hair Oil
Now that I am done curling, I finish off with some oil. This may sound weird because you don’t want your hair to be oily, but it actually helps your curls last so much longer because your damage will be less since you are still giving your hair some moisture while styling it at the same time. I finish it off with some oil. I’ve used argan oil, morrocan oil, you can really use any kind of hair oil that you want. I also use the WetBrush to distribute the oil evenly throughout my hair just because the WetBrush itself doesn’t give me split ends like other brushes do so I love to use that or you can just run your hands through your hair. At the very very end, you’ll run your hands through your hair one last time so all the curl are seperated and then you’re DONE!
