Casual Valentine’s Day Outfit Ideas
Paper Bag Pants + Cute Top or Sweater
First, I wanted to talk about paper bag pants. They are the perfect staple to dress up or down. I love to pair it with a top that has similar colors in the details so it really stands out. One of my absolute favorite Valentine’s Day outfit ideas is pairing these paper bag pants with a textured sweater giving a little more visual interest to an outfit. Here’s the pants and a few tops I picked out to go with them:
Sweater + Distressed Denim
I love to pair a cozy sweater with denim. Like I said before, finding sweaters with some visual interest is my go to and then i wear a pair of trusty distressed denim. Madewell is my new favorite place to find jeans and the new Universal Thread line at Target is really comparable. I’m linking a couple sweaters that are adorable and perfect for Valentine’s Day but you can also wear it any day of the year.
Dress + Denim Jacket or Cardigan
Did you know dresses can be casual too? A great way to dress down a dress is with a denim jacket and sneakers. I love to wear Converse or Adidas Superstars with dresses so it’s still cute but a little more edgy. If you’re wanting to get really festive, get a pair of heart sneakers. They’re adorable and I can’t wait to pair them with a pink dress. I throw on a denim jacket to add a little more structure to the outfit or a slouchy cardigan to feel more cozy and comfortable.
Button Dress + Duster
This button dress quickly became a staple in my closet. I wear it ALLLL the time and the color is perfect for a Valentine’s Day outfit. However, it does come in a lot more color options if you are looking for something else. I paired this dress with a duster cardigan since it matches the length of the dress and looks really cute paired together. It can easily be worn with another type of jacket, cardigan or with a sweater layered over the top. The options are endless!
Matching Loungewear Set
Loungewear is very popular right now and this is one of my favorite Valentine’s Day outfit ideas for a night in. This two-piece set is so comfortable and perfect for a movie night. Make a blanket fort, pop some popcorn and turn on your favorite rom-com!
Joggers + Graphic Tee
This is another comfy option for a Valentine’s Day outfit! There’s so many adorable options for graphic tees. I love ones with cute Valentine’s Day puns or ones I can wear for more than just one day a year. I linked some options down below along with the best joggers on the planet!
Valentine’s Day Outfit Ideas for Work
Eyelet Top + Pencil Skirt
When I worked in a news station, we had to be professional every single day. However, when I started doing social media marketing, my office atmosphere was more business casual. I want to show you both options. The first Valentine’s Day outfit is an eyelet top paired with a pencil skirt. I would wear heels or flats and maybe a blazer depending on the day. If you aren’t comfortable with a pencil skirt, you can choose to do an a-line skirt that pulls away more from the body or a nice pair of slacks.
Floral Blouse + Paper Bag Pants
I know I mentioned paper bag pants as part of my casual Valentine’s Day outfit ideas, but they are so versatile. When I worked in my last job, I would wear these once a week because they’re so comfortable and feel like a step above sweatpants, but they look a lot more polished than that. I paired mine with a cute floral blouse that brought out the mauve in these pants. You can wear them like i styled mine or pair it with any type of top you want to make this outfit your own. Dark jeans are also an option if your workplace allows.
Heart Print Skirt and Pink Bodysuit
Give me all the heart printed items for my Valentine’s Day outfit! I think wrap skirts are very flattering and I love the tie at the waist of this heart print skirt. With skirts, I’m getting into bodysuits. I like to tuck my tops into my skirts and bodysuits help everything stay in place. If you’re not comfortable with a bodysuit or can’t find one that works for you, pair it with your favorite pink top.
Dressy Valentine’s Day Outfit Ideas
White Lace Dress + Duster
I’m bringing back my trusty gray duster with this outfit by layering it over top of a white lace dress. This dress is a staple for me in my closet and can literally be worn with anything. It’s a great piece to dress up or down. I chose the duster since it’s a little chilly this time of year. However, pairing it with a burgundy moto jacket would make the perfect outfit for going out with your girlfriends or for a date night.
Heart Blouse + Skirt
This is one of my personal favorite Valentine’s Day outfit ideas! I found this heart top a couple weeks ago and ordered it right away. It’s adorable and can be worn so many different ways. I paired mine with a skirt but you can wear this with dress pants or dark jeans.
Little Black Dress + Heels
For a more dressy Valentine’s Day outfit, throw on a little black dress! I found this stunning dress that would be perfect with the tiny swiss dots shaped like hearts. I would wear black strappy heels or a pair of colorful pumps to add some color to the outfit.
Mauve Lace Midi Dress + Black Peacoat
I saved the best for last! Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I went on a date in a fancy dress but this dress makes me want to. It’s a gorgeous mauve color and with a pair of heels it would look fantastic. If it’s cold where you live, opt out for a traditional coat and go for a black pea coat. It’s classic and brings the outfit to the next level. I linked a couple other dresses that would look beautiful as well.
Those are just some of my favorite outfit ideas but there’s so many more! Let me know which ones you would wear and if you choose anything from this list, post a picture and tag me (@kaylajfsmith) because I would love to see it! If you want to see more outfit ideas, click here.
