The only thing we can take away from this life is the experiences from the relationships we build.
I am three weeks into the new year and I realized there are a few other things I am wanting to change. I began working with the company Ash + Ivory with their new commitment calendar. Each month, I decided to commit myself to different things and this month is all about building relationships.
Where I Started
Last year, I became really stingy with my time. Helping others and doing things I didn’t want to do were definitely not at the top of my priority list. Depression overcame me and I felt lonely and selfish. I knew this year I wanted to be different: I want to reach out, be a real friend and genuinely find interest in what others are doing. The things I do this month will frame how I spend the rest of the year.
My Inspiration
I’m a podcast junkie and recently started listening to Munchin’ with Moguls. It’s an INCREDIBLE podcast! The first episode is an interview with Ginger Parrish and Bree from Fight Like Girls. In one part they asked, “Who doesn’t need a friend?” and they’re SO right! No one wants to go through this life alone, especially me. I don’t know if you believe in personality tests, but mine says I’m 52% extrovert and 48% introvert. I recharge alone or with one person (AKA my husband Taz), but I still thrive in social situations.
My Commitment
This year, I want to work on forming new relationships and building upon the ones I already have. I promise I won’t spread myself too thin, but I saw this quote this morning and it really spoke to me:
“True happiness comes only by making others happy.” -David O. McKay
I decided if I’m going to reach my full potential of happiness, it is only through the service of others. Being a better listener, reaching out and planning lunch dates are only a few things on my list of becoming a better friend and wife to Taz. I’m so happy I have my new commitment calendar at my desk so I can be reminded of these things I want to work on everyday for my relationship goals.
I wanted to thank you guys for always being so supportive and we are totally besties now because of how kind you are on all my posts. If there’s any questions you have or anything you need, don’t hesitate to reach out.
XOXO Kayla
