The Girlboss Struggle is Real and Will Continue to be a Struggle
A girlboss is defined by Urban Dictionary.
A woman in control, taking charge of her own circumstances in work and life. Someone who knows her worth and won’t accept anything less.
Sounds easy right? Maybe for some, but I am still working on it. Becoming a girlboss is a lot harder than it looks. There’s so many things happening behind the scenes that others may not see through social media. I put together a couple points so you can get a sneak peak into the life of a girlboss.
There’s Only an Upward Climb
People tell me all the time that they cannot wait for their blog to start coasting along without doing much work. The issue with this is that something cannot reach its potential unless there is significant work put in. People work until better things to come later. Good things come to those who are always working. My favorite girlbosses didn’t sit back and eat bon bons once they reached success. They continue to bust their butt everyday to reach new horizons. I am attempting to do the same with everything I am working on and hope to pave my own road to success.
Work on Never Comparing
I know this one is easier said than done. It’s hard to look at what others are doing and feel like we should be on that level. You can’t compare your beginning to another’s finish line. Also, you only see the world inside the frame. The house could be a mess beyond that square photo or the sink could be overflowing with dishes in that “spotless” kitchen beneath the picture’s crop. Things may not always be what they seem. Getting that perfect Insta-worthy photo or trending blog post takes a lot of hustle, long nights, blood, sweat and tears. The most important thing is to be as real as possible and not fool your audience into thinking you are something you’re not. Be relatable. Be honest. Be vulnerable. We are all different so jump outside the box and be yourself instead of copying what everyone else is doing.
Love Yourself and What You Are Doing
The definition states a girlboss knows her worth. She knows what she has done, what she is currently doing, and what she wants to be doing. I will tell you now: you will probably hear no more often than yes. However, these no’s are not a reflection of self-worth. Keep hustling and working as hard as possible to reach your goals. If you have a dream, do whatever you can to achieve it regardless of what others say. Most of my mentors I look up to never even finished school. They are living proof that anyone can be anyone if they work for it. If you love what you are doing, then it is worth it all. The good times are much sweeter after you realize how hard you have worked. Now, take control of your destiny and HUSTLE!
