The Best Hair Products for Dry, Damaged Hair

These styling musts are some of the best hair products on the market!

I wanted to talk to you guys today about the best hair products and how I keep my hair healthy. I just moved from Utah to Florida so coming from a really dry climate to a really humid climate was so hard and I had to basically throw out my entire hair care routine. These are the things that I kept that work for both dry and humid climates so wherever you are in the world, anything of this will work. During this, I want to walk you through from my shower routine to my hair styling routine so hopefully all of this makes sense.

Matrix So Silver Purple Shampoo

First is the Matrix So Silver Shampoo. This is for all of you who are blonde. This really is for no one else so I apologize if you don’t have any blonde in your hair, but I know of people have color-treated hair and this helps to get all the brassiness out and tones the hair. I use this shampoo every single time I shower. I actually use two shampoos when I shower, but I’ll show you the other kind next. This shampoo is my favorite kind of shampoo. It helps to tone my hair. My hair tends to go really warm so it seems to turn orange overnight but I pour a little bit of this into my palm, put it all over my hair from roots to end, let it sit for 10 minutes in the shower and do the rest of my hair care routine while I’m in the shower.

Monat Renew Shampoo and Replenish Masque

Next is the Monat Renew Shampoo and Replenish Masque. I thought I would hate this if I’m being 100% honest. My hair was so dry and it is so dry still. When I lived in Utah, it would get so dry and brittle it would start falling out which sucks. It’s horrible! This completely helped that. It gets all the moisture into your hair without it feeling greasy. The Replenish Masque has more product inside of it than any other conditioner I’ve used in the past. It doesn’t look like a lot but there’s a lot in here. I’ve had mine for more than 6 months and I’m only halfway through. It’s changed the hair game for me and became one of the best hair products very quickly.

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Conditioner

After I get out of the shower and mostly dry my hair. I put in the It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Conditioner. Usually, I put it in my hair from halfway down because this is the driest part of my hair. I don’t really like putting it on my roots because it could get a little bit greasy. After I get out of the shower, I spray this all over my hair every time I get my hair wet so it doesn’t dry out when I’m swimming, going to the beach and as soon as I wash my hair. It helps my hair survive!

Kristen Ess Beach Wave Spray

I know I’ve talked about this in my last video, but I just wanted to cover it again because I love it so much and it’s one of the best hair products on the market. This is the Kristen Ess Soft Shine Beach Wave Spray. It’s my favorite beach wave spray because it doesn’t have the addition of salt so it doesn’t dry out your hair. It helps get you those defined curls that I love so much. This beach wave spray makes your hair feel really touchable, soft and not crunchy like other sprays I’ve used before. It just is a really good one to try if you’re never tried Kristen Ess products before. This is the one I definitely recommend.

Batiste Dry Shampoo

Now on to my last and probably most important of the best hair products: DRY SHAMPOO! Everyone needs it. I don’t care who you are. Everyone needs dry shampoo because greasy hair is horrible. I hate the touch of it, the look of it, and everytime I have greasy hair it just makes me so sad. After I spray this dry shampoo in my hair along my roots, I use my hands like a comb and shake the product through my hair.This will help to distribute the dry shampoo without leaving a white residue all over your scalp because you don’t want to look like you have dandruff. It gets all the oils and grease out of your hair to get your hair looking shiny and fresh like you just washed it. I usually use the scentless kind but this is the only one they had left at the store. Someone asked what perfume I had on and it was just dry shampoo. It smelled THAT good!

How to Get Beach Wave Curls that Last for Days

Get beach wave curls that brings out your inner mermaid!

Today I want to show you guys how I do my signature beach wave curls. I get a lot of questions on how to do these and they are so much easier than you think. I’ll be walking you through the step by step process on how to get these effortless waves without much effort at all.

How to:

My hair kind of has a mind of its own. It’s straight on top, curly on the bottom and just all over the place. That’s why I try to curl my hair twice a week so that it looks a little more tame than it usually does. Today I’m going to use the Conair Travel Smart Curling Iron. I really like this curling iron because it’s super cheap. I bought it right before I went on a study abroad to Europe and it didn’t short out like all the other girls’ curling irons because it had the correct voltage. If you are going to Europe or even out of the country, it’s definitely something to look into while creating beach wave curls. This one gives me such good curls and it’s so cheap which is why I prefer it.

Prepare your hair

The first thing I’m going to do to get these beach wave curls is section off my hair because even though I have fine hair, there’s a lot of it. I usually do three sections and then I secure it at the back of my head. I take the BathPack brush and this is one of my favorite brushes because it’s similar to a WetBrush but this is $5! I know, it’s amazing! It gets all of knots out and works really well on both wet and dry hair.

Curling

I’m going to take a piece of hair about two inches thick and hold my curling iron at a 45 degree angle with the clip at the top. I’m going to clip it closer to the root and twist it once, hold for three seconds, slide down two inches, curl again and repeat down the strand. Once I get to the bottom, I lightly release the clip twist the curling iron, and straighten the ends of my hair for a piecey look to master these beach wave curls. Continue through each layer and curl away from the face.

Products

I add two different products in my hair after I’m finished, Batiste Dry Shampoo and the Kristen Ess Soft Shine Beach Wave Spray. Both of these add texture and volume to keep my hair looking great until the next time I wash it.

Bubble Wand Tutorial: How to Get Mermaid Hair in Minutes

Voluminous curls last for days with this style!

Since the beginning of the new year, I decided to take better care of my hair. I didn’t want to stop styling it, but I knew I needed to cut down the amount of heat I put into it. The bubble wand is my saving grace! The curls last for over a week! It’s crazy! I put together a quick bubble wand tutorial because I know not a lot of people know how to use them. If you need volume and/or want your curls to last more than two days, keep reading!

Step 1: Section off the hair

I section my hair off so only the bottom layer is out. I tie the rest off with a scrunchie or a hair clip.

Step 2: Spray heat protectant

I use heat protectant on each layer before curling. Repeat this with each layer of hair.

Step 3: Wrap the hair

Take a 2 inch section of hair. I wrap the hair away from my face and in between each of the bubbles on the wand. Get as close to the scalp as possible and leaves an inch of hair at the ends to avoid damage.

Step 4: Straighten the ends

Majority of the time, my ends are too curly for my taste. I straighten just the ends of my hair to create a more piece-y, beachy look.

Step 5: Apply hair oil/anti-frizz spray and enjoy!

I use hair oil on my hair because it seems that this hairstyle gets my hair more frizzy than normal. A spritz of hair oil here and there takes away any unneeded frizz. I run my hands through my hair until I get my ideal amount of curliness. Run hands through but DO NOT BRUSH. You will regret it. Trust me. Other than that, you are good to go!

This bubble wand tutorial is a quick and easy way to get mermaid hair in minutes! This is one of the fastest hair styles I’ve been able to achieve that lasts the longest. I revive my curls the following day with some beach wave spray and it keeps the curls lasting for many days later. The Secret on How to Get Thick Hair without Extensions

These little-known tips will have everyone wondering how you did it.

People constantly ask me my secret for having thick hair. Genetics? A super secret hair mask recipe? Many girls rush to order hair extensions to save their thinning hair, but I know that can be costly. Plus, after spending hundreds on someone else’s hair, you’ll have to purchase another set which can eventually damage your hair depending on the type you get. Buying hair extensions is not a bad idea, but investing in my own hair has helped me boost my confidence and reduced upkeep. Today I’m spilling my secret on how to get thick hair without extensions. I use a handful of products that saved my hair from falling out and help it grow long and strong while still being able to use heat. (Hallelujah!)

Step 1: Leave-in Conditioner

After I wash my hair and towel dry, I put a few pumps of leave-in conditioner. This helps moisturize your hair and prevents breakage. I use It’s a 10 plus Keratin to keep it stronger than the normal formula, but either one works.

Step 2: Heat Protectant

I typically shower at night so I let my hair air-dry and then put this on before curling my hair. However, if you prefer blow-drying, spray the heat protectant while the hair is still damp and then blow dry. This minimizes frizz and damage. I used to never do this, but it helps much more than you think! If you don’t want to do the extra step, I alternate between using my leave-in conditioner and my blow-dry protectant cream since it provides both moisture and protection.

Step 3: Styling

This is the step that most people have struggles with. I will walk you through what I do, but I am in the process of making a video tutorial as well to show you better. The L’ange Ondule 25 mm wand is pictured in the photo I used. I can use it with ease, but the quality is definitely not my favorite. If you have thinner hair or you struggle to hold a curl, I recommend using the Beachwaver S1.25 wand. I talk about the Beachwaver all the time, but it is incredible! To create maximum volume, curl away from the face and hold each curl for 3-8 seconds each. I curl my hair one layer at the time and I don’t touch any of the curls until everything is completely cooled.

Step 4: Texturizing

This is the secret on how to get thick hair! Spraying something like a sea salt spray close to the scalp gives the roots volume and the appearance of thickness. Hair becomes texturized and doesn’t necessarily become thicker, but it gives hair body without weighing it down. Sea salt spray can sometimes dry out your skin so using a root booster is another way to achieve this!

Step 5: Oil and Brush, Brush, Brush (optional)

Oil is the cherry on top! I use either Morroccon Oil or Marula Oil. Put oil ONLY on the bottoms because you want to avoid oil on the roots at all costs or all your hard work will be for nothing. This helps against your ends drying out and breaking. Also, if you are a firm-believer in dry shampoo, the oil SAVES your ends. You’ll thank me later! I put the oil in and brush through the curls with my WetBrush to break them up so they don’t stick together. Finish off the look with some hairspray and you’re done!

Hopefully, my tips will help you have those gorgeous wavy locks you desire. I know it sounds like a lot, but this entire process lasts 15-20 minutes depending on if you blow-dry. How the Beachwaver Cut My Hair Routine Time in Half

The Beachwaver is my go-to tool for an effortless look

With all the rush lately, I have wanted to shorten my time getting ready so I can put more time into developing our future. This is why I wanted to share how the Beachwaver cut my hair routine in half. I prefer to curl my hair but it is fairly thick so it can take a while.  I had been wanting to get a new curling iron since mine was getting older so Taz got me a Beachwaver for Christmas. He is so good with stuff like that (I think having six sisters has helped).

I got the 1.25 inch since I like the looser flowing look rather than tight corkscrew curls. There is a button with arrows going two different ways so you can decide whether to curl away or towards your face. I typically curl away from my face or alternate directions to give a more natural look. There are also fast and slow settings on the side. I would definitely recommend starting slow! I tried fast at first and almost burned myself. Begin on the slow setting and then transition to fast in order to avoid as much injury as possible. Also, so you can get the hang of it.

I thought I would share what I do with this styling tool in a mini tutorial. To get started, take a chunk of hair and clip it in the barrel away from your face. Leave the ends out to achieve that ideal beach wave. Push the button to curl away from your face and hold. On the official website for the Beachwaver, they say to wait 3 seconds but I would say anywhere between 5-8 seconds works the best for me since my hair is thick. Adjust timing depending on what kind of hair you have. Once, you have waited long enough then it is time to release.

I am a fan of brushed out curls. After I style everything and it has cooled, I spray a little bit of hairspray throughout my hair and comb through with my hands or go over it lightly with a brush. This may sound like a lot but it goes quickly and cuts my time in half. Majority of the time, I can do this entire process with one hand. I attached links to my curling iron along with the 1 inch iron if you want a tighter look.

NuMe 32 mm Loose Beachy Waves Tutorial

Who says the beach is just for summertime?

I love the look of loose beachy waves all year round so I decided to write a post this week for my favorite NuMe curling wands. I like to curl my hair more than straightening it but I try to go for a more natural look versus tighter artificial curls. That is why I bought the 32 mm wand in order to get the look I am going for since the thickness of the wand is what determines tighter or looser curls for this loose beachy wave tutorial.

If you turn your wand up to a higher temperature, it will hold the curl for longer but it could increase the risk of damage. I, personally, turn it up higher so I don’t have to touch it up throughout the day. If you are afraid to damage it, here’s an earlier post on how to protect your luscious locks.

Curling Technique

I heat up my wand to 410 degrees and begin with sectioning my hair by layer and tying up the extra until I am finished with the one before. Take 2-3 inch chunks of hair and curl starting in the front and working my way towards the back. I typically curl my hair away from my face so it doesn’t cover it while I am at school and anchoring on the news. However, this can cause your hair to become one giant curl if it is all in the same direction. Alternating directions for each piece and tugging down on every curl create more natural-looking hair instead of one uniform piece.

Run your fingers through your hair or gently brush it for a softer look. NuMe products always give me the style I am looking for and I hope it will do the same for you.

How to Get Rid of Split Ends and Have Healthy Hair

You’ll never have a bad hair day again.

Fall is here which means winter is just around the corner! Along with winter comes the dry bitter cold which is damaging to your hair. From living in the desert and applying heat to my hair nearly every day, my “good hair days” became few and far between.

Personally, I don’t cut my hair very often so when I went in to visit my hairdresser she recommended It’s A 10 leave-in conditioner. I thought it would make my hair greasy and dirty looking but the results could not be more opposite! I spray my hair after every time I wash it and I have noticed a huge difference compared to when I first started. It is now easier to brush my hair and the amount of breakage went down dramatically.

For those with greasy hair, I would recommend just the regular spray but if you have dry hair like me, use the spray with added keratin. Also, if you want something a little extra, put a quarter-sized amount of coconut oil onto the ends of your hair. It will add some more protection and leaves your hair smelling amazing!
