My dream finally came true.
Ever since seeing Tangled, I wanted to light lanterns off for myself. I thought about doing it at the send-off for our wedding, but the local government banned floating lanterns in Florida during turtle season. The Lantern Fest started a couple years ago and I knew this was my chance. I signed Taz and I up a couple weeks ago for an anniversary gift and went this past weekend.
The Lantern Fest happened at the Utah Motorsports Campus in Tooele, Utah. We got there around 6 p.m. so we could get a good seat before the sun went down. The traffic was horrible when we got into town, but that was to be expected. We parked and walked in with our camp chairs and cooler to the check-in point. They gave us lanterns and cute boxes filled with everything to make s’mores and a marker to decorate the lanterns. I put a sun on mine along with a quote from Tangled because it’s my absolute favorite Disney movie which is why I wanted to come here to begin with.
We set up camp and then attempted to brave the lines for food. Word of advice: eat before you come! We ended up giving up and then eating afterwards which was really late. I am still recovering from that (I’m old haha.)
They lit the fires once the sun went down so we could all make s’mores. People kept lighting their lanterns early which was bad because the fire marshal could shut down everything if it kept happening. Thankfully, the show still went on.
The Lantern Fest was just as magical as I could have ever hoped. Over 15,000 people lit their lanterns and filled the sky with thousands of lights. Taz got some incredible pictures and then we stood in awe. My dream finally came true and I’m so happy we got to share this experience together.
