Which sponge is better for applying makeup: a silicone sponge or a beauty blender?
I waited FOREVER to try a silicone sponge for makeup and now I finally have thanks to Snatch Cosmetics. I’ve seen bloggers and YouTubers alike testing out the famous silicone sponge. I wanted to see how it would work for myself. I tested one over the past year and found some surprising results from using one in my daily routine. Here’s a list of the pros and cons of a silicone sponge so you can decide if this latest beauty trend is worth the hype.
Pros
The silicone sponge is really lightweight and easy to clean. Usually, I have to spend 5-10 minutes every morning washing my beauty blender in the sink with soap and water. With just a simple makeup cloth, the silicone sponge is clean in seconds! It’s magic! You don’t have to get it damp before using it like a beauty blender. Since it’s made from silicone, the sponge doesn’t soak up all the product compared to a more porous beauty blender. With my beauty blender, it takes anywhere between 5-10 minutes to clean rather than the 5-10 seconds for a silicone sponge. It saves me a ton of time and money since the silicone sponge doesn’t waste valuable product like foundation or concealer.
It uses WAYYYY less product like I mentioned before. I use maybe a third of my concealer than normal since none of it absorbs into the silicone which is so nice! I always dread having to buy new product since it can get expensive (but it is worth it!) If you are a penny pincher like me when it comes to makeup, you’ll want to invest in a silicone sponge.
Cons
I love its simplicity, however, I do not think it blends as well as my beauty blender. Every time I use the silicone one, I always have to go over the top with my regular sponge or a makeup brush. I fell in love with this revolutionary sponge but it doesn’t blend the product well compared to its counterpart. All it does it press it into my skin and it doesn’t look as smooth as I would like. If you don’t mind, I recommend buffing out the excess with a makeup brush to minimize the amount of product lost. This way you can have a gorgeous finish but save as much foundation or concealer as possible.
Conclusion
There are good (and not so good) things about the silicone sponge, but I will probably always have one of each kind to alternate between. I love how the silicone sponge uses less product, but I like the even finish my beauty blender leaves on my face. Like I said before, there’s also another option of pairing a makeup brush with the silicone. Whichever you prefer, there’s pros and cons to each product so I will continue using both for the foreseeable future. If you have tried it, which do you prefer?
