Washing hair takes a lot of time! Here’s how I go days while keeping my hairstyles fresh and clean.

The newest beauty trend is reducing the amount of times we begin washing hair and I can’t say I’m mad about it. There’s no better feeling than rolling out of bed and not having to touch my hair. Washing hair takes a lot of time since I have more hair than I know how to handle. Not to mention how long it takes to DRY it. (ugh!) I developed a system that minimizes the amount of times I need to begin washing hair and I wanted to share it with you. Before I do that, I want to start off by saying that I do shower almost every day I go in between. I just don’t wash my hair every time. I needed to clear that up so you don’t think I’m completely disgusting haha.

Step 1: Leave-In Conditioner

I found the longer I go without washing hair, it gets drier with every passing day. After I shower, I spray leave-in conditioner on damp hair from end to root and massage it into my scalp too. It gets very dry from living in the West so this helps keep it healthy for longer.

Step 2: Brush

You can damage wet hair a lot easier than dry hair so I use my Bathpack brush. I talked about my review of this brush in a previous post, but I seriously can’t get enough! It detangles easily and doesn’t pull too hard. To be honest, I don’t have a high pain tolerance so this is one of the few brushes I can handle on my head.

Step 3: Lift and Secure

Once you dry and style your hair, this is what you need to do before going to bed. I learned this first tip from the Beyouty Bureau. First, take only the hair at the crown of your head and bring it back into a claw clip while leaving the hair lifted. This allows the hair to remain fresh instead of laying on an oil scalp. After learning this tip I cut the amount of times I’m washing hair in half! Since I have a lot of hair, I pull the rest into a low ponytail with a scrunchie so it doesn’t crease or touch my face during the night. Here’s a picture of what it looks like for reference. 

Step 4: Dry Shampoo

I usually introduce dry shampoo on day 3 or 4, but see how long you can go without it unless you absolutely need it. PRO TIP: Use dry shampoo at night! This allows it time to soak up any oils leaving hair fresh in the morning. Before bed, spray dry shampoo and disperse with your hands or a brush. Complete Step 3 and you’re set!

Step 5: Enjoy!

Feel free to touch up pieces here and there throughout the week or use my favorite beach wave spray to refresh curls. This is the best routine I found for my hair. Washing hair can take a long time, but these quick and easy tips keep it fresh for days. Let me know if there’s any other ways you’ve found or if you test out some of these tips for yourself.
