2016 was on of the busiest years of my life but definitely the most rewarding! Here’s our year in review.
When I look back at our year in review, it was filled with laughter, tears, ambition, lots of love and pineapples! I compiled some of my highlights from 2016 to share with all of you.
Marriage
This is probably the biggest and most obvious one. On New Year’s Eve in 2015, Taz asked me the most important question I would ever answer in my life with a ring inside a carved out pineapple. I have always loved pineapple since they are a symbol for love, friendship and welcoming others. (Plus, they are just a cool looking fruit.) We had a semester long engagement and got married May 6th in Florida which is where we both are from. It’s been a blast starting our life together. It’s funny how I always wanted my own room but now I can’t sleep unless we are together. He is my best friend and definitely my favorite roommate.
Internship
I became an intern this summer at KUTV 2News in Salt Lake City for their digital media department. I wrote content for our social media platforms that would encourage interactions online. It was so much fun to finally be in a real-world news room. It was very high-paced and exciting. I learned a lot when I was there but it definitely made me question what I want to be when I grow up.
School
I finished my junior year and began my senior year at BYU in broadcast journalism. I became an anchor for KBYU Channel 11 News twice a week and that was a blast! We had an amazing crew who worked really hard and I am excited to continue to work with them this upcoming semester as aa advanced reporter until I graduate in April.
Vacations
Our first vacation as a married couple was our honeymoon. We decided to stay in Florida because why go anywhere else when you already live in paradise? It was so much fun exploring the little town of Indian Rocks Beach. We walked everywhere, lived in our bathing suits and ate ice cream at each meal. It was relaxing and just what we needed before we went back to Utah to begin our lives together.
In November, we decided to have an anniversary weekend on 6 months of marriage rather than a year because we didn’t know if we would be moving over the actual day. We had a vacation in Salt Lake City exploring all the fun things there are to do there. We took gorgeous pictures on Antelope Island and ate some of the best diner food at my Uncle Ben’s Burger Bar. It was one of the best weekends we have spent together but everyday is just another adventure when you get to spend it with your favorite person.
We got the opportunity to go to the Bahamas with my family on Royal Caribbean during Thanksgiving. Taz got to go out of the country for the first time in his life. We got to relax and escape the cold weather in Utah which was a plus. We walked around the beach in Nassau and got to lounge around on the boat soaking in all the sun we could.
At Christmas, we went back and got to enjoy time with our families and get some use out of our bathing suits before heading back to freezing temperatures. We aren’t sure exactly when we will be back home but we hope to visit again soon.
Blogging
One of the biggest things I did in 2016 (besides getting married) was starting this blog. I’m so happy I finally gathered the courage to write about what I truly love. I am grateful for all of you supporting me by reading my blog and encouraging me to continue doing so.
It was a blast looking back at our 2016 year in review. 2017 is going to be a wonderful year so stay tuned for updates!
XOXO Kayla
